12th Century - The Infamous Murder in Canterbury Cathedral

 

Barham Down Henry II discovers a conspiracy by William, Stephen's son and the Flemings.   William fell from his horse on Barham Down and broke his thigh as the princes rode from Canterbury to Dover to meet the Earl of Flandres.

 

Barham Church The tall arches, base of the church tower and font are dated to this century.

Barham Court Sir Reginald Fitz-Urse, the owner, and three other knights responsible for the murder of Thomas Becket in Canterbury Cathedral stayed here on the eve of the murder.
