Ray Snellin
1940 - 1999

Ray was one of the most popular people that worked in Room 84 and finding words that pay tribute to him has been very difficult.

This is Room 84 however - so our way of remembering him is special and unique.

Ray was an outstanding character, he was on the receiving end of a lot of the Room 84 Show banter mainly because of the way he walked and the fact that he was alleged to have been born in Malta - and indeed he had the suave sophisticated looks of someone from the Mediterranean. Yet Ray was very much an English townie. It was always said that he never went anywhere south of Purley Oaks or north of Potters Bar.

The most amazing thing about Ray was the fact that he worked on the railways for well over 30 years & knew absolutely nothing about railways.

He was, however, very knowledgeable about virtually everything else. Jazz was one of his fortes as was film music.

Ray was extremely good company wherever he went. It was always great to see him in the Home Cottage for our reunions and his having to go and travel on the 4SUB in the sky to see WAB was a big shock to all. We all still miss him.
