Ted Copus
1930 - 2008

Ted came to Room 84 via Redhill Control and Room 80 in Essex House.   A one time resident of Burgess Hill he was very keen on going to the Royal George for a couple of pints and a bit of "Ball Poking" - or bar billiards - at which he excelled.

How he got into the Control Office is a complete mystery and it was often said that if we didn't find out more it will probably go with him to his grave.

"Uncle" Ted, as he was known to Kong - for a reason that isn't obviously apparent - was also known as "Mr Belch" and "Coypu", again complete mysteries.   In Room 84 he occupied the seat for undertaking Freight Alterations including the infamous weed killer trains which were difficult down to their need to constantly reverse to ensure that they covered all tracks.

To keep fit he took up cycling and moved to Wales where he could exploit this love to the full.   On the other hand he hated cricket - his grave is situated next to the cricket pitch in Newtown.

A great guy...
