 The End

This scene shows the tracks south of East Croydon station after removal of the Middle Siding which was between the second and third tracks in the picture.

The 4Sub (with roller blinds - very rare) is on the Up Local with the following sequence towards the retaining wall: -

Up Local
Down Local
Up Loop
Up Through
Down Through
Reversible

Here is an example of some work passing the window: -

An Eastern Region diesel, on the Down Through, hauling preserved coaches to Preston Park for store prior to the setting up of the National Railway Museum in York.

East Croydon station in mid afternoon.

At the station is an ambulance - possibly waiting for the delivery of a patient booked by the Party Clerk.

Behind the station is the Royal Mail which was connected to the platforms by the white bridge containing a conveyor belt.

The level of road traffic was normal during the 60s and 70s.

Looking slightly left of the picture above, we can see the platforms with a 4EPB in platform 1.

All three platforms had slopes from the booking hall which stood above the paper archives - which were dirty dark and wet!.   Space was also found for offices under each slope.

On the right is the Parcels Bay which was connected to the Reversible Line at each end.

The mail bridge mentioned previously is clearly visible as is the Goods Yard which still seems busy with road vehicles.

East Croydon signal box can be seen to the left of the mail bridge.

Just behind the shops was the Club which was a great attraction to Room 84 personnel who went "Ball Poking" at lunchtimes.
